Go, go, go to Amerigo

I don't go to a restaurant expecting to trash it, but I am looking for flaws. Maybe the service isn't great, or maybe the bread is mediocre. There's always something that's not perfect.

Imagine my surprise when at a recent lunch, the entire meal -- the service, the food, everything -- was perfect.

Did I discover Amerigo, or did Amerigo discover me?

My friend and I went there for lunch, thinking that since it was a chain (a small one out of Nashville), it wouldn't be all that great.

Our server brought us some homemade focaccia bread and herb olive oil, and it was amazing. The bread was fresh and ridiculously soft.

My friend ordered the house smoked turkey Panini ($8.50), which was a griddle-pressed sandwich with almond wood-smoked turkey, bacon, caramelized red onion and Fontina cheese with roasted coriander mayonnaise. You can get Caesar salad or shoestring fries, and my friend had the fries. I had a taste of his sandwich, and the bread was crisp and thick, and the flavors melded together. The perfect sandwich.

I had the chicken Marsala ($9.50), a large breast of chicken with Marsala wine sauce, mushrooms and artichokes over angel hair pasta. The sauce was light and delicious, and the pasta was great. We had no complaints.

With two drinks, the total was $22.40, and I gave him a $6 tip.
